Recently, I had the privilege of providing all the stationery for a styled shoot at the stunning MJM Chandler Ranch, a venue that blends rustic charm with timeless elegance. The shoot was steeped in a dark and moody western theme, showcasing how the right stationery can elevate an event’s ambiance and set the tone for a truly unforgettable celebration.
Setting the Scene at MJM Chandler Ranch
MJM Chandler Ranch is a gem in the heart of Paso Robles, with its sprawling landscapes and vintage ranch aesthetics. This venue offers a backdrop that’s as versatile as it is enchanting, making it a favorite for Central Coast weddings. For this styled shoot, the ranch’s open fields and historic architecture were adorned with rich, dramatic tones and organic textures that perfectly complemented the moody western theme.
The shoot featured a palette of deep navy, burgundy, and black, accented with earthy hues and metallic touches. The lush florals, curated by a talented local florist, combined dried elements with fresh blooms, creating arrangements that felt both untamed and sophisticated. Elegant Lettering: Handwritten calligraphy graced the envelopes, creating a personal and luxurious feel. The bold, white ink against the deep navy envelopes made a striking statement.
Botanical Illustrations: Intricate floral motifs framed the invitation, tying in with the organic elements of the shoot’s decor.
Rich Paper Choices: Heavyweight cardstock in soft ivory was paired with a textured vellum jacket featuring an ethereal floral print. A wax seal and velvet ribbon added layers of texture and refinement.
Accompanying the invitation suite were matching day-of stationery pieces, including menus and a welcome sign. The menus, adorned with a gorgeous hand made wax seal and personalized name card, added a sense of drama to the tablescape, while the welcome sign greeted guests with an air of sophistication. These cohesive details ensured that the stationery seamlessly integrated into every element of the shoot, reinforcing the theme from start to finish.
A Look at the Day’s Details
The tablescape was nothing short of breathtaking. A teal velvet tablecloth provided a rich foundation, while black and gold chargers, matte black flatware, and crystal glassware created a refined, contemporary aesthetic. The menus I designed were placed atop folded linen napkins, each secured with a custom wax seal to echo the invitation suite’s design. Surrounding the table, floral centerpieces brimming with dahlias, roses, and textured greenery brought a sense of wild beauty.
The bride’s look tied everything together with a nod to western romance. Her lace gown, with its off-the-shoulder design and flowing train, exuded elegance, while her bouquet featured an artful mix of bold and muted tones. The groom complemented her with a classic black suit, his boutonniere echoing the florals’ dramatic hues.
